Housed within a Tudor style building in the charming Market Place of Shifnal is Fennels, a contemporary, European restaurant that is always busy. Equally popular with locals and visitors alike, the winning combination of its traditional, cosy ambience with young chef Dan Vasey's forward-thinking cuisine has been wooing a loyal flock of diners since he started his own restaurant venture.
Seating a mere 35 diners, getting a table here may be tricky if you haven't booked. Indeed, Fennels' intimate environment is a major part of its attraction. A small venue justifies a more restricted menu, but this allows Dan Vasey to offer bespoke and creative dishes, tailored to the individual diner. Examples of his skilled handiwork include an interesting roast venison loin on chorizo mash with red onion marmalade; Fillet of Hereford beef on potato and fennel with a black truffle sauce; and the mouth watering shank of lamb with roasted shallots on a bed of olive mash with a lavender honey gravy.
A well-balanced, sensibly priced wine list offers plenty of choice to complement the menu. Booking is strongly recommended to avoid disappointment.
