Mobile Food Guide Review of Café at Brovey LairThis is an extraordinary set-up. Brovey Lair is home to Mike and Tina Pemberton and they have transformed it into a uniquely chic blond-wood café-with-rooms out in the wilds of the Norfolk countryside near Watton. Eating here is rather like being one of the guests at an extremely exclusive private dinner party. You have to book in advance and discuss any or all of your dietary requirements or preferences before turning up; the menu is fixed and there's only one sitting. Tina Pemberton's cooking is high-frequency global fusion with a preference for seafood and Japanese ideas, all produced in a preternaturally tidy open kitchen dominated by a teppan-yaki grill. The menu you agree on is likely to consist of four courses, with no choice at all. Typically, you might begin with prawn ceviche and avocado on a salad of palm hearts, move on to carrot soup with coriander ginger and orange then await a main course of baked turbot marinated in spicy coconut and Kaffir lime leaves with Nanjing black rice, baby aubergines, pak choi and oyster mushrooms. To finish, there could be bitter chocolate Mocha truffle torte on mango crème anglaise. Get the picture? If you are staying over, why not pamper yourself with an aromatherapy massage? And, for breakfast, expect an off-the-wall mix of healthy Californian and spicy Mexican delights. Additional Restaurant Information for Café at Brovey Lair - Thetford
