Queen's Head - Glanwydden

The legendary Queen's Head at Glanwydden has been a Welsh trailblazer for more than twenty years under the direction of Robert and Sally Cureton with their dream team of chefs and front-of-house staff.

The relaxed bar with its roaring log fire is the perfect setting for a pre-dinner drink and perusal of the menu while the kitchen takes care of business drawing on trusted supplies of fresh local produce. There's a no-nonsense generosity and lack of pretence about the food, which may include starters such as toasted goats' cheese and pesto tart or butternut squash and sage risotto.

Seafood shows up well in the shape of, say, sautéed local mussels topped with smoked Llanrwst Cheddar or dressed Conwy crab, while Welsh lamb is a favourite among carnivores (roast rack with a mustard and rosemary crust or perhaps a shank served with rosemary jus). The innovative wine list sits alongside a clutch of perfectly kept real ales and a decent malt whisky selection.

Excellent accommodation is offered in the Old Storehouse, opposite the windmill in the village. This lovingly restored cottage dates back to the eighteenth century.
