Mobile Food Guide Review of Queen's HeadUnder the watchful eyes of Robert and Sally Cureton, the eminent Queen's Head at Glanwydden has been a Welsh trailblazer for more than twenty years and it continues to go from strength to strength. There's a no-nonsense generosity and lack of pretence about the food, which relies admirably on a dependable network of trusted local suppliers, growers and producers. Seafood shows up well in the shape of, say, sautéed local mussels topped with smoked Llanrwst Cheddar or dressed Conwy crab, while Welsh lamb is a favourite among carnivores (roast rack with a mustard and rosemary crust or perhaps a shank served with rosemary jus). To start there might be wild mushroom and garlic soup or butternut squash and sage risotto, while desserts could range from cherry Bakewell tart to tiramisù. The innovative wine list sits alongside a clutch of perfectly kept real ales and a decent malt whisky selection. Excellent accommodation is offered in the Old Storehouse, opposite the windmill in the village. This lovingly restored cottage dates back to the eighteenth century.
