A stone's throw from Gairloch's little fishing harbour, at the foot of the enchanting Flowerdale Valley, the Old Inn can trace its history back more than 200 years. Needless to say, the views and the setting are regular talking points.
Scottish seafood naturally takes centre stage on the menu, with cold shellfish platters, grilled langoustines, squat lobsters and mussels lining up alongside ceviche of scallops with orange, grapefruit and red pepper coulis or steamed turbot on Greek salad with prawn-stuffed courgette and red pesto dressing. Game is also a major attraction (wild venison steak with basil mash, confit garlic and braised red cabbage, for example), and the kitchen might also send out lamb tagine, caramelised chicory bake and desserts such as traditional clootie dumpling with custard.
The Old Inn is also a real ale pub with a vengeance, offering a regularly changing selection of at least five from England and Scotland, plus Blind Piper (the house ale comprising a mix of different Isle of Skye brews conjured up by the landlord and customers). Malt whisky and wine also have their say.
