Review of La Partenope, City of Edinburgh
'I promise you will feel better leaving than when you came in,' wrote Gillian Glover in The Scotsman. Her praise was heaped on a highly popular, enthusiastically supported Italian of the old school called La Partenope.
Atmosphere counts for a great deal here, but so does the food. It has convinced with an array of dishes including char-grilled scallops with a purée of cannellini beans, lobster cooked in white wine, garlic and chilli with pasta, and tuna steak married ingeniously with pine nuts, raisins, orange, capers and the like.
Most agree that seafood is the thing to go for, but the kitchen tackles other stuff as well, and also produces wickedly sensuous desserts involving Genoese sponge, alcohol and fruit.
