Mobile Food Guide Review of Ginger BistroSimon McCance worked as head chef at Nick's Warehouse before setting up on his own. Fans may remember his eight-table, BYO cult venue on Ormeau Road, but now he is spreading his wings with this spacious new bistro in the centre of the city. Fish is a big player on the menu, and it's easy to spot a free-wheeling attitude to things gastronomic in dishes such as fried spiced squid with sweet chilli dip, watermelon and carrot salad or fresh tuna with spiced potato, ginger and green bean curry and chilli oil. The kitchen also plays to the gallery with French onion soup, creamy fennel and Parmesan risotto, and pan-fried Irish sirloin steak with home-cut chips and red wine jus, while desserts bring it all back home with apple and blueberry crumble. A modest, but enticing wine list supports the food admirably. One-course 'express' lunches are just the job for a quick refuel, and pre-theatre deals (5.00 – 7.00pm Tue-Fri) are equally speedy affairs.
