An upbeat, smart little venue overlooking the Marina, this venture from chef Stephen Jeffers aims to bring innovative, family-friendly dining to Bangor. It's an uncluttered sort of place, with mirrors, café-style tables and chairs, stunning views from the uncurtained windows and a congenial, chatty atmosphere.

'Order what you want and when you want it' is the message, and the non-conformist main menu encourages flexibility: have anything from Jeffer's meze plate or some Welsh rarebit to summer pea risotto, spiced fish stew or slow-cooked Strangford lamb with tomato, fennel and buttery saffron rice, before rounding things off with blackberry and apple crumble or plum and ginger cheesecake with organic honey and vanilla crème fraîche.

This is also an all-day venue par excellence, providing breakfast, 'easy lunches', American-style afternoon teas and weekend brunch as part of its package. To drink, there's a short, well-informed list of lively international wines. Stephen Jeffers is also planning a new venue called The Boathouse – watch this space!
