One of the oldest military towers in Plymouth (dating back to the sixteenth century) is the unlikely setting for Peter and Debbie Constable's popular restaurant. Built as a 'defender of the realm' on the waterfront close to Drake's Island, it now serves a very different purpose.
The kitchen follows the season and buys locally for an ever-changing repertoire of dishes with a European slant. You might kick off with twice-cooked blue cheese soufflé, figs and balsamic vinegar or poached lemon sole with mussels in saffron broth, ahead of roast duck breast with spiced pear chutney or sirloin of beef with horseradish mash and red wine sauce. Local and regional cheeses complete the picture, along with desserts like passion fruit soufflé with passion fruit sorbet. The wine list is an impressive global slate supplied by Robin Jones of Croque-en-Bouche.
