The clue is in the name: Cruz is actually a 400-tonne ship moored against the harbour wall by Leith's trendy shoreline. Built as 'The Ocean Mist' in 1919, this venerable steamer has seen years of service and was once used to ferry racing cars to France and Italy. Several facelifts and coats of paint later, the vessel now does duty as a cool, contemporary bar and restaurant.
Scottish produce shows up in the shape of haggis and neeps with Drambuie sauce, Aberdeen Angus steaks and roast rack of Orkney lamb with wild mushrooms. Elsewhere, expect seasonal game (warm salad of pigeon breast with wild leaves and porcini mushrooms) and a good showing of seafood ranging from mussels with saffron to grilled fillet of halibut on a bed of lentils with chorizo and chive butter. Organic ice creams, chocolate fondant and sticky toffee pudding are typical sweets. The pulsating bar attracts fans of classic and 'retro-fusion' cocktails.
