A charmingly run venue near the centre of town, Druid Lane comprises a convivial basement bar (perfect for a glass of wine and some tapas) with stairs leading to the main restaurant on the first floor. Bare pine tables, rust-coloured walls and a big stone fireplace create a cottagey, farmhouse feel, and the menu has something to please most palates and preferences.
Typical first courses might include 'golden fried' duck and potato cakes with light chilli oil dressing or steamed Galway Bay mussels in a white wine, garlic and herb broth. Vegetarian dishes head the list of familiar mains, which extends to medallions of pork with cider sauce and caramelised apples or marinated chicken breast on champ with wild mushroom and thyme sauce. Chocolate and almond tart figures among the choice of desserts. Two-course 'early-bird' menus are served from 5.00 – 7.00pm each evening, and the concise wine list promises decent drinking from around the world.
