A riotous tropical extravaganza on the first floor of Bournemouth's Pier Approach building, Aruba is the brainchild of local entrepreneur Andy Price (of WestBeach fame). It's directly accessible from the beach and boasts the largest single dining area on the south coast, plus a state-of-the-art, zinc-topped 'island bar' flanked by palm trees and other exotica.
Racy, eclectic food with fusion overtones is the kitchen's business, and the output includes a mix of grills, salads, pasta, pizzas and more besides. 'Teasers' (aka. starters) might include nachos, Bangkok-style fishcakes, 'potsticker' dumplings and skewers of teriyaki beef; seafood also shows up well (anything from sea bass fillets with glass noodles, spring onions and pak choi to yellowtail snapper with Cajun and lime butter), while sweet-toothed conclusions might run to Guadeloupe pineapple pudding, coconut and papaya ice cream or waffles with Mascarpone and strawberries.
Aruba is open for breakfast, has special menus for kids and partygoers and is hot in the drinks department: check the list of potent cocktails, beers and global wines. Note that the bar stays open for drinks until 2.00am.
