Situated adjacent to Hove's famous Clock Gardens, the Meadow is 'a welcome addition to the area,' according to one enthusiastic Mobile Food Guide reporter. Sussex-born chef/proprietor Will Murgatroyd earned his culinary stripes at Gordon Ramsay's Pétrus before returning to his home patch for this slick new venture.
Billed as 'a restaurant for all seasons', the Meadow is a showcase for top-drawer British ingredients including rare-breed meats such as Longhorn beef and Middle White pork, as well as fish from the South Coast ports and other produce from small-scale enterprises: around a dozen are given a name-check on his daily-changing menus.
English pea soup with crème fraîche, mint oil and sorrel sets the seasonal tone, or you might prefer to start with potted salt beef, wholegrain mustard dressing and pickled gherkin. Main courses could range from fillet of bream with lobster and Pink Fur potatoes to Sussex Breed ribeye steak with hand-cut chips, snail butter and pickled mushroom salad or 36-hour braised belly pork with cauliflower and roasted leek salad. To finish, check out the deep-pan apple pie with custard or peanut parfait with milk chocolate mousse.
Drinks and light snacks are also served in the spacious bar, and the onsite Farmshop & Traiteur offers many of the local ingredients & produce used in the restaurant.
