The prospect of fine food 'at any time of day' brings crowds to Nik and Traci Tinney's bustling venue in the centre of Truro. It aims to please all-comers with breakfast, express lunches, pre-theatre suppers (5.00 - 7.00pm) and Saturday brunch, as well as special deals for 'young diners' and a full daily menu.
Inside, it is brightly done out in shades of saffron yellow and orange, with scrubbed pine tables and piscatorial artwork on the walls. Nik Tinney is a fan of local produce and he is happy to spread the gospel, singling out favourite producers on his regularly changing menus.
Fish is always a good bet - perhaps Fal Bay shrimps with garlic butter, line-caught sea bass with octopus and pumpkin bouillabaisse or grilled John Dory with saffron and red pepper risotto cakes. Alternatively, go for something meaty, like steamed game pudding or grilled sirloin steak with straw potatoes and horseradish aļoli. Desserts such as autumn pudding with toffee apple ice cream come with recommended sweet tipples, and there's plenty of good stuff on the drinks list (from local real ales to Gosset Champagne in hand-blown glass bottles).
