Reputedly one of the oldest pubs in Cornwall, the Victoria Inn is handily placed some five miles east of Penzance and is within easy walking distance of Perranuthnoe's delightful beach. The pub itself also sports a sunny sub-tropical garden for al fresco meals - if you fancy a break from the sea and sand.
Chef and co-proprietor Stewart Eddy trained with Michael Caines and Raymond Blanc before setting up in this pretty corner of the West Country. At lunchtime, the kitchen delivers up-market crab sandwiches on ciabatta bread, Welsh rarebit, steak and chips and such like.
Dinner menus highlight Cornish produce - especially seafood: seared scallops are served with pea and prosciutto ham risotto, roast fillet and crispy belly of St Buryan pork come with hog's pudding and apple sauce, while Spurthan Farm chicken appears in a stew with haricot beans, chorizo and tomatoes. For afters, try pears in mulled wine syrup with vanilla pannacotta or chocolate crème brûlée with Kirsch-soaked cherries and cherry ice cream.
