House in a former bank close to Oban Art Gallery and the waterfront, this aptly named restaurant has kept its sturdy granite frontage and large windows, but takes inspiration from the coast when it comes to the textiles and colours used for the interior. Clean-cut wood partitions, calming seaside tones, modern art and metal set the scene, and the kitchen also looks to the sea for culinary ideas.
The full menu is a mix of fairly straightforward starters followed by more intricate main courses with plenty of fish and local meat on show. Char-grilled Loch Linnhe langoustines with garlic and parsley butter are bestsellers, along with ham hock roulade and fresh crab salad with avocado and tomato mousse. Mains span everything from sea bass fillet with tomato and herb salsa, spinach and sorrel dressing to roast shoulder of lamb with summer vegetables, herb gnocchi and thyme jus, while rhubarb mousse with ginger ice cream and praline biscuit is a nice finale.
Daytime light bites and early-evening deals bring in the families, but note that children must be out by 8 o'clock. The wine list offers a good spread of whites and reds to suit the food.
