Glen Orchy House - Lerwick

Built in 1804 by the Episcopalian church as a convent, and known as the 'House of Charity' during the 1920s, Glen Orchy has been sympathetically transformed from an ecclesiastical retreat into a bright and airy guesthouse and restaurant.

Residents are in for a bit of a surprise when it comes to dinner, because the kitchen specialises in authentic Thai cuisine - not something you would expect in the far-flung reaches of the Western Isles! The wide-ranging 100-dish menu covers all the familiar benchmarks of the cuisine, from curries and stir-fries to noodles: among the more unusual items are hoy tod (Thai mussel panackes), nua manow (deep-fried beef with lime sauce) and stir-fried salmon with red curry paste and ginger.
