The House on the Hill is a popular restaurant situated on the London Road in Sevenoaks, a short stroll from the station. The restaurant has an elegant contemporary décor featuring artwork by Sally Weekes. Set over two levels with a first floor dining room, or guests can eat in the more informal downstairs bar area, where they can watch all the action in the kitchen.
Chef patron is Andre Woodward who conjures up a wide range of culinary delights for his modern European and British dishes. His food is based around carefully sourced ingredients from trusted local suppliers, as shown on his menu. To begin you might opt for the six hour, slow-braised Chart Farm boneless beef rib marinated in Szechuan pepper and honey with Asian herb and coconut salad, coriander pesto and soy caramel or seared Rye Bay scallops with butternut squash and celeriac puree, crispy prosciutto and lemon and chilli sea salt. Main courses offer local wood pigeon breasts wrapped in watercress mousse and crisp pastry with purple sprouting broccoli and cauliflower gratin and parmentier potatoes or blackened fillets of wild seabass with mango salsa, tempura fennel and samphire fritters and a marinated tomato and rocket salad. To finish why not choose the 'House on the Hill' Eskimo bars, dark chocolate brownie and vanilla ice cream dipped in chocolate with a hot caramel sauce or glazed brioche bread and butter pudding with bayleaf ice cream.
The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, the concise wine list offers a good choice whilst keeping its prices in check, ensuring The House on the Hill a must visit dining destination in Sevenoaks.
