The Crown Inn is a stunning timbered frame 16th century coaching inn located in the picturesque market town of Amersham. The interior has been tastefully updated by renowned designer Ilse Crawford, whose portfolio includes Soho House, New York and Babington House. The minimalist contemporary décor is very engaging with its low dark beams, exposed brickwork, oak tables and chairs and plenty of nooks and crannies amidst the crackling log fires.
Heading the kitchen is David Hawkins who was previously the Head Chef at The White Oak in Cookham where he was nominated in the top 30 new Gastro pubs 2010, and the Michelin red guide 2010 and 2011. Typically you might begin with chicken and veal galantine and sauce grabiche or cured salmon served with ratta potato salad. Hearty main meals follow with lamb rack black pudding hash and sweetbreads or roast partridge, game chips and bread sauce Old favourites such as apple and plum crumble and custard or sticky toffee pudding with malt whisky ice cream round things off nicely. There is a lovely cobbled courtyard that is open during the summer and is a popular spot for elevenses and afternoon tea.
