A new sibling to the ever popular Cambridge Chop House, St John's Chop House, a 17th Century building just a short walk from Magdalene Bridge, is carving a reputation of its own and is fast becoming one of the most popular restaurants in Cambridge. No nonsense British food is the name of the game and the emphasis is on locally sourced produced.
Expect a great atmosphere and the scene set with wood burning stoves while the kitchen trundles through a repertoire of favourites ranging from devilled lamb kidneys, sliced haslet (a herbed pork meatloaf, originally from Lincolnshire) & Piccalilli or smoked trout to Barnsley chops, suet pudding or guinea fowl with creamed Savoy cabbage. Join the queue for the sausages, the restaurant makes their own and they come up served with sauce and mash.
The wine list is thoughtfully compiled and is extremely good value; alternatively real ale from the local Milton Brewery is served direct from the cask.
