The WinePress Restaurant is set in the Harpenden House Hotel, a smart Grade II listed Georgian town house that has been a young ladies school and a convent for the Dominican Sisters in its past life. It is now managed by the Vineyard group, the award winning team behind The Vineyard at Stockcross. The chic dining room features a renaissance style ceiling with a sparkling chandelier, smart cream chairs set against polished wood tables.
The menu has been overseen by Michelin starred chef Daniel Galmiche together with head chef Neal Sealey, so you are guaranteed an excellent dining experience. Typical dishes on the menu are Bury black pudding, potato purée, poached egg, devilled sauce, roast breast of Goosnargh chicken, bacon, watercress, bread sauce and rustic fondant potato, slow cooked Hertfordshire pork belly with apple compote and sage crisps. Traditional desserts tempt with apple and sultana crumble with custard or treacle tart. Given the name of the restaurant, you will not be surprised that wine is a prominent feature with the carefully chosen list offering over forty by the glass. The Welcombe lounge, where you will find a large 18th century fireplace serves traditional afternoon tea, as well as an extensive bar and lounge menu.
