Aurelia is the latest venture from the people behind the highly acclaimed Zuma, Roka and La Petite Maison restaurants, located on the former site of Balls Brother's Mulligan's in the heart of Mayfair. The restaurant takes its name from the old Roman Road, Via Aurelia and the contemporary Mediterranean cuisine follows the same path the road embraced centuries ago. With a smart décor of cream and brown tones and white floral arrangements, the venue is spread over two floors, a bar area upstairs and the dining room with an open kitchen downstairs.
Heading the kitchen is Rosie Yeats-Greenslade who previously worked with Nic Watts at Roka for the last four years, as well as spending time in the kitchens of La Petite Maison and Il Baretto. Impeccable ingredients of the finest quality, with a respect for the seasons are sourced by the kitchen. The food focuses on a sharing concept with dishes arriving at the table as they are prepared, with an emphasis on Italian, French and Spanish contemporary cuisines. Typically you might choose a salad of lobster, shaved baby fennel and preserved lemon or beef carpaccio, parmigiano, hazelnut and black pepper. Main courses take in Dover sole a la plancha with lemon and olive oil or with cockles, tomato and capers and beurre noisette or choose Salt Marsh lamb leg, anchovies with salmorigilio sauce from the rotisserie. Desserts bring on boards such delights as a classic tarte Tatin, vanilla ice cream with Pear William or maybe chocolate truffle. The food is supported by an extensive wine list with an emphasis on France and Italy.
