Review on The Brasserie Bleue Restaurant at The White Lion
Completely refurbished in 2011, The White Lion Hotel can be found in the historic coastal town of Aldeburgh, steps from the Moot Hall Museum and directly overlooking the beach with its stunning sea views. Their modern Brasserie is at the heart of the hotel, a delightfully relaxed space with a contemporary décor featuring marine pictures on pale walls.
The kitchen offers freshly prepared dishes with a French flair using the very best of local ingredients. Fish is supplied daily from the fishermen huts situated on the beach just a stones throw away, while their kippers come from Pinney's of Orford.
Open your account with steamed river Deben mussels in a creamy garlic and white wine sauce with bloomers bread or from the land choose Dingle Dell pork rillettes with celeriac remoulade and French stick. Main courses usher in pan fried Suffolk pork chop with mash potatoes, French beans, and charcutier sauce or grilled sardines with olive tapenade and leek and garlic tomato gnocchi. As well as sharing options and vegetarian choices, children are made welcome and also have their own menu. Desserts are hard to resist with a melt in the middle chocolate pot with shortbread or baked toffee apple pudding with cinnamon ice cream.
The White Lion has 38 cosy bedrooms, some with sea views should you wish to explore the area further.
