Review on Ting Restaurant, Shangri-La At The Shard
May 2014 saw the much anticipated opening of the luxurious Shangri-La Hotel situated in the iconic Shard, occupying 18 floors of the building from the 34th to the 52nd floor. The hotel offers a choice of dining options with their signature restaurant Ting located on the 34th level, 128 metres above the ground level. Featuring an opulent Chinoiserie décor, the resplendence of the hotel permeates through to its equally spectacular restaurant, with a panoramic 360-degree view of London's breathtaking skyline, you really do feel on top of the world. Modern classic furniture, beautiful lantern-inspired pendants and metal screens incorporating oriental elements evoke the ambience of a sophisticated Chinese lifestyle.
Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, Ting is named after the Chinese word for living room and is the collective name for the restaurant and the lounge located on level 35. Taking the reins of the kitchen is Executive Chef, Jeremy Brown who proposes a modern European menu with Asian influences, whilst using pedigree ingredients from local and regional sources.
Open your account with Dorset crab, cucumber, mango, tomato and passion fruit or foie gras, duck, cherry, pomegranate and Grue. Main courses pick up the theme with Rhug Estate organic lamb loin, mirin, sake, Erengi mushroom and green apple or from the sea choose halibut, teriyaki, green spring vegetable, citruses and lemon balm. As a finale, indulge in artistically displayed desserts in the shape of rosewater parfait, pink champagne jelly, guava and white chocolate crumb or dark chocolate, Griotte cherries, pistachio and vanilla ice cream. Knowledgeable, first-rate service accompanies impeccable dishes and a pedigree wine list.
Other options available in the hotel include the Lounge serving an à la carte menu of authentic Asian specialties, together with one of the largest selection of Chinese teas in London, the ground floor Lang, an artisan deli and cafe and on level 52 there's Gong, London's highest champagne bar.
