Review on Hawksmoor Knightsbridge
July 2014 saw the opening of the fifth branch of Will Beckett and Huw Gott's award winning steak restaurant Hawksmoor, located in the former premises of Frankie's Bar & Grill on Yeoman's Row in prestigious Knightsbridge. The subterranean space has undergone a refurbishment, out has gone the giant glitter balls and mirrored walls, replaced by walnut panelling made from original 1930's doors, oak strip flooring from a Blackpool ballroom and elegant bespoke brass light fittings. Evoking the glamorous era of Art Deco, brass arched windows are fitted with amber glass and leather seating is set against rich wood tables, simply laid with candles.
Their meat is sourced from Longhorn cattle traditionally reared in North Yorkshire by multi-award winners The Ginger Pig, dry-aged hung for at least 35 days and cooked on a real charcoal grill. Reflecting the duo's recent travels around Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore and Vietnam, the menu especially when it comes to seafood displays an Asian influence, witness dishes such as Singapore-style devilled Brixham lobster, wild sea bass with chilli and ginger Vietnamese style oysters and a lobster roll made with sriracha mayonnaise and yuzu. While desserts offer temptation with a peanut butter shortbread served with salted caramel ice cream or maybe choose the passion fruit crème brûlée.
Knowledgeable staff, a pleasant buzz and a first rate wine list to complement the food adds to the whole package.
