Review on Vinoteca Marylebone
Brett Woonton, Charlie Young and Elena Ares, the trio behind Vinoteca the successful wine bar and shop chose affluent Marylebone for their second branch, which also has further outlets in Farringdon, Soho and Chiswick. Set amongst a small parade of upmarket shops, a short walk from the hustle and bustle of Oxford Street, the restaurant has an intimate and buzzy atmosphere. It's furnished with bare wood tables and bentwood chairs, with an open kitchen towards the rear of the bar and eclectic art pieces on the walls.
Each chef of the four Vinoteca branches puts his own indelible stamp on the daily changing menu using first-class seasonal ingredients, with cured meats and bavette steak imported direct from Jabugo in Spain. There could be Provençal fish soup, croutons and aioli or seared baby squid, rocket, preserved lemon and salsa verde amongst the starters. Main courses offer dishes in the shape of Scottish salmon fillet, coco beans, kale and sauce vierge or for carnivores there's grilled Middlewhite leg, braised courgettes and wild mushrooms.
The top-class wine list of some 285 bins sourced from small producers has an ever changing selection of 25 wines by the glass, displayed on huge blackboards they are available in house, or you can buy a discounted bottle from their shop to take home with you.
