Review on La Barbe
At The Mobile Food Guide, we have a fond affection for La Barbe in Reigate since La Barbe was was one of the very first restaurants to be reviewed and it has been sailing with the wind ever since. Laurent Paucaud and his team have been delivering authentic French cuisine to travellers and aficionados for more than 29 years and shows no signs of faltering.
Brightly coloured, original artwork sets the tone in the dining room, where the regularly changing menu lives and breathes Gallic authenticity. Here is a kitchen that tempts with the likes of grilled mackerel fillet, new potatoes and French bean salad topped with tomato velouté, confit of duck with sweet-and-sour black cherry sauce, and monkfish served in a curry and raisin sauce with a carrot and almond flan. After that expect 'le chariot de fromages', plus desserts such as toffee and chestnut cheesecake or iced white chocolate parfait filled with strawberry purée and Malibu.
There are wine recommendations for each dish on the menu; in fact the whole place exudes confidence and knowledge when it comes to 'the grape'. You can even buy wines online by visiting La Barbe's website.
