Review on The Phoenix Inn
The Phoenix Inn is a charming historic pub situated just off the main A30 at Phoenix Green, a short distance from the affluent village of Harley Wintney in Hampshire. Proprietors Andrew and Sisi Ryder took over the venue in November 2009 and their friendly hospitality and tasty food as seen them achieve a number of awards and plaudits, including Les Routiers 2013 Inn of the Year and their legendary Sunday lunch won the title of 'Best British Roast Dinner 2012' in the Knorr Gravy's British Roast Dinner Week competition. The building dates back to the 16th century in some parts, with beams a plenty and lots of nooks and crannies and exposed brick walls. Chunky wood tables and chairs are set on stripped wood flooring and a cosy roaring fire greets you during the Winter months. In Summer guest can sit back and relax with a glass of wine or enjoy a leisurely meal in their lovely garden.
Menus change frequently with the kitchen committed to promoting sustainability and provenance, ensuring that fresh, first-class produce is used for all of their dishes. On offer there might be devilled lambs kidneys on toast or sautéed Scottish scallops, bacon and creamed leeks. Main courses embrace Game pie, sweet potato mash, carrots and peas or from the sea there's roasted cod loin steak, parsley cream sauce, new potatoes and buttered spinach. Round things off with cherry and almond tart served with crème fraiche or Rolo bread and butter pudding with double cream.
The wine list brings together some great wines from around the globe with plenty of options by the glass and there's an excellent selection of seasonal ales that have been Cask Marque accredited.
