Review on L'Amorosa
Formerly the local all-day café Lola & Simón, located in the Ravenscourt Park area of Hammersmith, it has now launched as L'Amorosa, a charming Italian restaurant with chef/proprietor Andy Needham at the helm. Andy started his career at The Savoy in London as a commis chef and later made his mark at Zafferano in Knightsbridge, where he was Head Chef for 15 years following the departure of Giorgio Locatelli.
The restaurant has a simple décor with pale walls adorned with pictures, chocolate brown banquette seating runs the length of the restaurant set against dark wood tables, with further seating up the stairs to the mezzanine. It has all the hallmarks of a great neighbourhood restaurant with a very inviting ambience and friendly service, but what really marks it out, is its foodie obsession with the very best ingredients for its dishes.
The kitchen's repertoire is ever changing, but diners can expect starters in the shape of cuttlefish in a tomato based stew with soft polenta or salted air-dried cured beef, red radicchio, celeriac and balsamic baby onions. Main courses embrace homemade black tagliolini with king prawns, cherry tomato and courgette or roast corn fed chicken with polenta, black cabbage, pancetta and sage. Desserts bring on board such delights as pear and almond crostata with mascarpone cream or hazelnut bavarese with vanilla ice cream and espresso coffee.
The lunch menu offers very good value and the food is complemented by an all-Italian wine list at realistic prices.
