Review on Bel & The Dragon at The Swan
Set in the heart of the village of Kingsclere in Hampshire, The Bel & The Dragon at The Swan is the latest addition to join the critically acclaimed group of country inn and restaurants, alongside siblings in Cookham, Windsor, Reading, Churt and Odiham. Inside it has been beautifully restored to its former glory by London based designer Nicola Harding, whilst retaining many of the original features including the oak beams and open fires.
Ronnie Kimbugwe is the Groups Head Chef and he previously honed his skills as the Senior Sous Chef of the critically acclaimed Gordon Ramsay at Claridges. He has created a menu showcasing the finest seasonal modern British cuisine, with ingredients carefully sourced from local and sustainable sources.
Open the slate with seared Scottish scallops, pumpkin purée and crispy pancetta or a duck salad, spring onion, radishes and sesame seed dressing. Main courses offer dishes in the shape of roast suckling pig cooked on the rotisserie, served with crispy crackling and spiced apple chutney, or from the Josper grill there's half grilled Atlantic lobster with garlic butter and zucchini frites.
The wine list has been compiled with the help of respected wine producer Olivier Leflaive and together they have produced their very own Bel & The Dragon white and red Burgundies. House wines are served from a magnum and are only charged for the volume consumed.
