Review on Bel & The Dragon at The George
Located in the historic village of Odiham which as a royal manor was the first entry in the Hampshire Domesday Book, The Bel & The Dragon at The George is part of a collection of six stylish county inns. Housed in a Grade II listed building with features dating back to 1540, like its siblings it has undergone a beautiful refurbishment by interior designer Nicola Harding, whilst retaining the original oak beams and open fires. Wooden tables are well spaced on parquet flooring in the cosy dining room, where guests can take in all the action of the open kitchen.
Group head chef Ronnie Kimbugwe has created menus showcasing British classics with modern influences. emphasising impeccable local and sustainable ingredients. Fish fans might start with the seared Yellow Fin tuna, mustard, wasabi and soy or there's a duck salad with spring onions, radishes and sesame seed dressing. When it comes to main courses there's lobster and crayfish risotto, chive and lemon zest crème fraîche, which can also be served as a starter, or from the rotisserie there's Hampshire partridge, braised red cabbage and game chips. Desserts are equally inviting ideas such as white chocolate panna cotta served with Amoretti biscuits and raspberries or a sticky toffee pudding with malt ice cream and caramel sauce.
The Bel & the Dragon at the George has ten delightful bedrooms should you choose to extend your stay and explore the lovely Hampshire countryside.
