Review on The Grazing Goat

Cubitt House have added to their portfolio with a fourth establishment named The Grazing Goat on the premises that formerly housed the Bricklayers Arms. Like it's siblings, The Thomas Cubitt, The Orange and The Albert Tennyson, the venue has undergone a serious refurbishment and has emerged as a bright and modern gastropub with eight beautiful bedrooms set over three floors. Located within Portman village on New Quebec Street, just a short walk from Hyde Park and Oxford Street, it's named after the goats that used to graze in the grounds, providing milk for the first Lady Portman, who was allergic to cow's milk. The popular wood panelled bar is on the ground floor with open fireplaces and large French doors opening onto the terrace, while the dining room is upstairs, a light and airy affair with tall windows and a skylight in the ceiling.

Kicking off with breakfast, through to lunch and dinner, the kitchen offers a seasonal menu with a British accent. Typical dishes on offer from the dinner menu include starters in the shape of seared scallops, crispy pig cheek, celeriac and fennel dressing or duck liver parfait served with pear and green peppercorn chutney and brioche. When it comes to main courses, from the rotisserie grill choose Suffolk chicken, bacon and sage stuffing paired with triple cooked chips or roasted garlic and rosemary mash, and a sauce of your choice. Fish fans might opt for the pan fried cod, Charlotte potatoes, salsify, lemon confit, mussel and cockle sauce. There are tempting desserts to finish, witness a chocolate chestnut roulade paired with coffee ice cream or caramelised apple, blackberries, toasted oats and whiskey ice cream.

There's an extensive wine list from all the major vineyards across the globe to complement the food, as well as tasty cocktails, draught and bottled beers.
