Review on Le Bistro at No Name Shop
Taking its quirky name from the street it's set on, the No Name Shop offers a ground floor delicatessen selling a fantastic selection of tempting French goodies, as well as the first floor Le Bistro serving classic Gallic dishes. Set in one of the oldest building in the heart of the historical village of Sandwich, one of the Cinque Ports, it's steps away from the old market square and a short walk from the River Stour.
Le Bistro is a quaint place with original exposed brick walls and low beams, affording a cosy intimacy that makes it popular with the local denizens, who certainly appreciate having this charming restaurant on their doorstep. Chef patron is Dominique Levet who kick starts the day for diners with le petit déjeuner, a typical French breakfast with a choice of pain au chocolate, pain aux raisins or croissant and tartine, jam and butter, served with coffee, tea or hot chocolate.
Other lunchtime options worth considering are the platters there's À la Provençale consisting of sundried tomatoes, stuffed peppers, olives, anchovies, tapenade and bread or maybe opt for the French Cheese selection of chutney, fruit and their delicious bread. Meat fans will enjoy the wild boar aux 3 poivres in a red wine sauce served with seasonal vegetables, or from the sea there's baked salmon with a herb sauce, potatoes and vegetables.
Warm attentive service and a well-priced wine list that naturally focuses on France, ensures a relaxed dining experience.
