Review on Clipstone
Clipstone is the younger sibling to Michelin-starred Portland owned by the well regarded duo, Will Lander and Daniel Morganthau. Located in the heart of Fitzrovia on a prominent corner spot, the restaurant takes its name from the street it resides on, and is just around the corner from Portland. Offering a more informal approach than it's sister restaurant, the interior is light and airy with an open kitchen, white tiled walls and plain wooden flooring and furnishings.
Stuart Andrew heads the kitchen with a menu offering authentic ingredient-driven dishes, showcasing confident cooking with seasonal touches very much to the fore. Tasty sourdough flatbreads with clam, parsley, crème fraîche and garlic or Ryefield cheese, courgette, marjoram and honey are cooked in the pizza oven, a reminder of it's previous incarnation as an Italian restaurant. There's also larger plates in the shape of Cornish plaice, rainbow chard, miso and dulse butter or Yorkshire hogget, Coco de Paimpol, preserved lemon, redcurrant and girolles. For a sweet finish enjoy Paris-Brest or maybe scorched nectarine, amaretto, mascarpone and camomile.
To accompany the food, diners can enjoy a well-priced wine list of which half is available by the glass or carafe, together with cocktails and in-house made soft drinks.
