Review on Blanchette East
Following the success of Blanchette in Soho, the Alary brothers have headed to Brick Lane for the opening of their second outpost Blanchette East, which opened its doors in August 2016. Designed by the award winning Blacksheep, the interiors have been decked out in a Belle Époque style with an East London urban edge, featuring a large reproduction print of Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres's painting La Grande Odalisque behind the marble topped bar. Walls are decorated with gilt-framed mirrors and murals by Aldo Gigli, hanging plants are suspended from the ceiling and there's interesting antiques sourced from Parisian vintage markets by the Alary brothers.
Tam Storror is the Executive chef of both restaurants, a former Bibendum alumnus he has created a modern French menu with Southern France and North African influences. For fish fans there's dishes like fillet of red mullet with brandade, olive and confit tomato or Cornish mussels with vermouth, tarragon and cream. While meat eaters might opt for the tasty lamb tagine with apricot, almonds and lebna or the guinea fowl with gem lettuce, smoked cheese, hazelnuts and grape. For a sweet finale there's a chocolate and hazelnut dacquoise with crème fraiche ice cream or black currant financier with white wine sabayon.
The wine list focuses on French, Spanish and Italian wines with plenty of options available by the glass and there's also an inventive cocktail menu.
