Review on Burdock
Launched in October 2016, café, bar and restaurant Burdock joins the ever expanding ETM Group of pubs and restaurants founded by Ed and Tom Martin in 2000. Located on the ground floor of the new landmark hotel Montcalm Royal London House next to Finsbury Square Garden, and just a short walk from Liverpool Street station. A listed building that once housed offices, it has undergone a £15 million pound restoration that has transformed it into a luxury five star hotel with breathtaking views over the city.
The 2000 sq ft space has been designed by London based Tonik Associates with a long bar made from reclaimed oak, dominated by four overhanging copper tanks filled with craft beer showcasing special guest brews, as well as one of London's newest breweries, the Long Arm Brewing Company. Leading into the main dining area it's a relaxed venue with an industrial vibe, featuring exposed brickwork and white marble tables set against banquette seating.
The kitchen offers an all day menu of British small plates and sharing dishes and there's a real dedication to impeccable ingredients such as rare breeds from Lake District farmers, game from Yorkshire and Scotland, wild fish from Brixham and Italian produce from Oliverilli. Typical offerings on the carte include Yellow fin tartare, sesame as well as venison meatballs, blue cheese and pickled garlic. Amongst the large plates look for spatchcock partridge, Brussels and quince or from the sea there's Monkfish kiev and curried slaw. As for dessert why not order one of their delicious sundaes like lemon meringue pie, lemon curd, raspberries, vanilla ice cream, almond crumble and meringue.
The food is matched by a thoughtfully compiled wine list, alongside cocktails, craft beers and Freak shakes, or for the health conscious there's a dedicated juice bar.
