Review on Ola del Mare
Guillermo Cabot, a restaurant manager for over a decade realised his dream in 2013 when he opened his own restaurant in Mallorca called Ola del Mare. Set in a former fishing village, Portixol is situated on the outskirts of Palma, a couple of kilometres from the Cathedral of Santa Maria. The dining room has a smart contemporary décor featuring exposed stone walls and wooden floors and beams. Ola is the Spanish word for waves and eye-catching pictures of waves decorate the walls. The restaurant is well known for its two glorious terraces that offer unparalleled views across the sea.
Seafood cookery is the business of the day, and the local catch is used to telling effect, starting off with crispy prawns with sweet chilli sauce or fried eggs with foie gras. Main courses usher in rabbit paella with onions and red prawns or cod roll stuffed with duck ham confit and aubergines with vanilla velouté. Ola del Mare apple pie paired with vanilla ice cream makes a fitting finale or maybe opt for the crispy mango in Grand Marnier sabayon.
Attentive, warm service and a wine list offering good choices to complement the food add to the enjoyable dining experience.
