Review on The Ivy Soho Brasserie
Opened on the 7th February 2017 on Broadwick Street, The Ivy Soho Brasserie is the latest offspring to join the Caprice Holdings collection of restaurants. Like its siblings the décor has the distinctive Ivy stamp created by Martin Brudnizki Design Studio with burnt orange leather banquettes and bar stools, onxy bar, marble flooring and bronze pendant lighting. A vibrant venue with walls adorned with artwork inspired by Soho's music scene, as well as Broadwick's most famous resident, William Blake.
The menu is a wide-ranging, all-day affair spanning everything from breakfast, coffee and sandwiches through to lunch, afternoon teas and evening meals. The extensive list of starters kicks off with a classic prawn cocktail with baby gem, avocado, cherry tomatoes and Marie Rose sauce or warm crispy duck with five spice dressing, toasted cashews, watermelon, beansprouts, coriander and ginger. Main courses also offer crowd-pleasing choices in the shape of traditional battered cod served with mashed peas, thick cut chips and tartare sauce to thinly beaten rump steak served with thick cut chips and two fried hen's eggs, or maybe aromatic duck curry with lemongrass, lime, chilli, roasted cashews and steamed jasmine rice. Amongst the tempting desserts there's apple tart fine, baked apple tart with vanilla ice cream and Calvados flambé or cherry ice cream sundae, Kirsch marinated cherries, pistachio nuts, baked meringue and shortbread.
Backing up the food is a well conceived wine list from all the premier growing regions, together with a selection of classic and contemporary cocktails.
