Review on Liberty Tavern
Liberty Tavern brings American cuisine to the upmarket village of Woolton, located a twenty minute drive from Liverpool city and just a few minutes from Hunts Cross Train. It's the second venture by the Flying Pig and Lobster group which is run by TV chef Simon Rimmer and Revolution Bars co-founder Roy Ellis, and sits adjacent to their Elephant Pub & Bakehouse. Originally known as the Bubble Room, it has undergone a stylish refurbishment with smart red leather chairs and banquette seating set on tiled flooring, and walls adorned with suitably American styled artwork.
The kitchen emphasises classic American dishes with produce sourced from trusted local suppliers. Kick off with scallops, sauce Amercaine butter, lemon and herb crumb served on the half shell or from the land there's pulled pork tacos, chipotle pulled pork, corn salsa, cilantro, queso and tequila sour cream. Follow on with Santa Monica sea bass, potato rosti, avocado, cilantro and sunshine tomato salsa or from the grill choose surf and turf, 8oz fillet and grilled jumbo shrimp. To finish expect sweet offerings like double chocolate brownie paired with hot chocolate sauce, malted milk ice cream and strawberries or an 'old fashioned' cheesecake, Bourbon and Florida orange cheesecake, caramelised oranges and candied pecans.
To complement the food there's a well thought out wine list, extensive craft beers and inventive cocktails.
