Review on Restaurante Colón
The gourmet Restaurante Colón occupies a prime position on the east coast fishing village of Porto Colom in Mallorca, overlooking yachts and fishing boats in the beautiful natural harbour. Guests can opt to dine on the terrace to take in views or inside where the restaurant features an open stone fireplace, contemporary artwork on stone walls and a life-sized sculpture of a bull.
Chef patron is German born Dieter Sögner, who moved to Mallorca in 1999 to open his restaurant Colón, named after the navigator and explorer Christopher Columbus who was allegedly born here. Dieter climbed the culinary ladder at the two-Michelin starred Tantris restaurant in Munich, as well as the highly regarded Hotel Adlon in Berlin. Today he presents innovative Mediterranean cuisine based on seasonal organic ingredients.
Open your account with sautéed lamb fillet with ratatouille and thyme pesto or Asian style roasted scallops with sugar peas. Main courses pick up on whole Dover sole with purée of Jerusalem artichokes and pak choi, while meat fans will enjoy the US prime spare rib with baked potatoes and vegetable gratin. Desserts are a highlight witness chocolate moullon with almond sauce and poppy seed ice cream or you might prefer the French cheese plate.
There's an excellent wine list of Spanish and international wines to accompany the food, as well as knowledgeable, first rate service.
