Review on Neo Bistro
Located on Woodstock Street, just steps from the shops of Oxford Street, Neo Bistro launched in June 2017, a classy neighbourhood restaurant that oozes confidence and prides itself on an unpretentious approach to good-quality food. The brains behind the enterprise are ex-Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons chef Mark Jarvis, who opened the award-winning Anglo Restaurant in Farringdon last year, and the former head chef of Texture Alex Harper, and more recently the Michelin-starred gastro-pub The Harwood Arms in Fulham.
Exposed brick walls are adorned with vintage posters and the room is flooded with natural light from the large skylight in the vaulted ceiling. Simple banquette tables and counter style seats on butcher block stools invite a relaxed and rustic dining experience.
Harper showcases creative, affordable dishes based around the kitchen's devotion to impeccable British produce, with a daily-changing chalkboard menu emphasising seasonal specials. Cornish crab with courgette and confit lemon proceeds Herdwick lamb with smoked eel and turnip or for those who prefer fish, Red mullet with orange and squid. When it comes to desserts there's strawberries and cream or you could opt for their selection of 'La Fromagerie' cheese with walnut bread and apricot.
Anglo's Nick Gilkinson is in charge of front of house, and he is also responsible for the wine list featuring emerging regions and lesser known grape varieties. Guests can also enjoy a weekly changing local craft bottled beer menu, together with tasty cocktails.
