Review on Sumailla
Sumailla has rapidly hit the high notes since opening in March 2017 in the exclusive resort of Port d'Andratx, a working fishing village 5km from Andratx town. It has an enviable position with an al fresco terrace above the picturesque harbour to take in all the stunning views. Their dining room is situated just across a small narrow road from the terrace, designed by architect Jaime Garcia Ruiz with a minimalist décor, there's tall bar stools set against a counter where you can watch the chefs prepare the food.
The kitchen is the domain of Executive sushi chef Mauricio Farinola, who previously worked at Lucy Wang and Tahini in Puerto Portals and he prepares exquisite sushi, as well as Japanese and Peruvian dishes. Why not start with the snow crab salad with mango, avocado and coriander, served with green shoots and a soy and yuzu vinaigrette or for those who like meat order the nikkei style beef tartare, a nikkei beef fillet served with egg sauce and karashi ko mustard. When it comes to main courses there's teppanyaki Bluefin tuna paired with sweet potato cream, bonnet peppers and katsuobushi foam or chargrilled Australian ribeye steak with mushrooms and the chef's special sauce. As a finale consider matcha green tea panna cotta with lime and lemon mousse or maybe the chocolate coulant.
There's an excellent wine list featuring Mallorcan wines alongside international offerings and an interesting selection of cocktails. At lunch Sumailla offers a well-priced sharing menu for two people consisting of five dishes.
