The Wild Honey Inn is an imposing Victorian building that started life in the 1860's as an hotel, standing majestically amidst the rolling countryside, it's close to the Cliffs of Moher in the heart of the beautiful Burren region. It is run by chef Aidan McGrath, who has honed his culinary skills in acclaimed kitchens such as L'Escargot, The Dorchester in London and Sheen Falls Lodge in Kenmare together with his partner Kate Sweeney, who is in charge of the exemplary service in the restaurant, as well as ensuring the smooth running of the enterprise.
Refurbished in 2009 they have created a convivial, laid-back ambience about the place with painted wood panelling, plaid tartan finishes and a cosy log fire. Should you wish to extend your visit and explore this wonderful area further, the Wild Honey Inn has a choice of stylish and elegant rooms with lovely views.
Aidan shows a real dedication to locally sourced ingredients and his cooking style based on classic French cuisine, which he describes as 'Bistronomy' is certainly reaping dividends as he was the recipient of a prestigious Michelin star in the 2018 edition of the Guide, the first Irish pub to receive this award.
Menus change frequently to reflect the very best of seasonal produce, so you might start with how hock and parsley terrine, celeriac remoulade, salsa verde, and country toast followed by a main course from the sea of Silver Hake, brown shrimp, coco de paimpol, broad beans, basil and parmesan velouté. Completing the picture are devilishly delicious desserts such as toffee pudding, toffee sauce, honeycomb and salted caramel ice-cream or a Basque tart with poached plums and fresh custard sauce.
To accompany the food there's a concise wine list from all the major wine making producers alongside some of the less well-known names in the business.
