Review on Rail House Café
Set in the new Nova development opposite Victoria Station, the Rail House Café is the latest venture from restaurateur Adam White, who already operates Village East in Bermondsey and the Riding House Cafe in Fitzrovia.
Seating 330 diners it's a huge airy glass fronted building, with a large terrace for al fresco dining, an upstairs bar and a private dining room. East Sussex-based consultancy Box 9 Design have created the interiors in collaboration with White, featuring a unique corrugated ceiling and a shabby chic décor, it takes inspiration for the design from a metropolitan train station. Handsome bars and bespoke furniture offers a diversity of seating areas which can be used for different purposes. By day its a bustling affair serving breakfast, lunch and everything in between, but in the evening lights are dimmed and the mood is more relaxed and intimate.
The menu is all encompassing offering something for everyone in terms of taste and budget from smoked salmon royale for breakfast, to a 10oz rib-eye sirloin with chimchurri and béarnaise sauce or a cheeseburger with all the trimmings for lunch. Dinner menus usher in the likes of seafood noodles, tiger prawns, mussels, clams, vermicilli rice noodles and XO sauce or maybe a grilled lamb rump with summer vegetable fricassee, red pepper relish, green olive tapenade, lemon and thyme, pine nut crumble. Vanilla cheesecake with hazelnut crumb and berries or a crème brûlée with pistachios and fresh strawberries rack up the comfort factor.
There's a wide-ranging wine list, craft beers and tasty cocktails like The Seoul Train, watermelon juice, Sangsom Rum, Jinju 24, lime juice and coriander.
