Review on Coya
Having established Coya in Mayfair in 2012 restaurateur Arjun Waney, co-founder of Zuma and Roka opened a second London venue on the ground floor of the new glass-fronted Angel Court development, just one minutes walk from the Bank of England. London design studio Sagrada have created an overtly swish and glamorous place with vibrant colours, handcrafted furniture and decorated with antique Latin artwork.
The main section of the restaurant features an open kitchen where diners can be seated at the brassa grill or the ceviche counter topped with bowls of abundant limes, avocados and chillies, with huge amphora pots suspended above it. Plush gold chairs and brown leather banquette seating lined with snazzy cushions are set against pale wood tables. The Pisco Lounge showcases the City's first library of pisco infusions developed exclusively by the bar team, together with fine and rare tequillas and an extensive rum list. The venue also plays hosts to DJ's every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights.
Ex-Zaika chef Sanjay Dwivedi has devised the vibrant Peruvian menu that is designed for sharing. Kick off with Yellowfin tuna, soy, sesame and shrimp cracker as well as slow cooked pulled pork, chipotle, salsa and criolla. Other options worth pursing would be the marinated skewers such as the Tiger prawns, aji panca and chives grilled on the robata grill or the lamb chops, roasted tamarillo and garlic chips. To finish expect sweet offerings like Peruvian purple corn colada, cherry and shortbread or coconut mousse, jivara and pineapple sorbet.
