Review on Frog by Adam Handling
Scottish Chef of the Year 2015 Adam Handling followed the successful launch of his Spitalfields restaurant, The Frog E1 in the summer of 2016 with the opening of his flagship Frog by Adam Handling in the heart of Covent Garden. Designed by Offbeat Interiors with bespoke furnishings, the restaurant opened in August 2017, set over two floors with a ground floor dining room featuring a large open-plan kitchen with a marble effect bar and copper ceiling lamps. Foliage filled walls are also adorned with specially commissioned pieces of artwork by acclaimed artists such as JJ Adams. Downstairs there's a large private dining room with its own kitchen and a plush speakeasy cocktail bar named Eve, which also has it's own street entrance.
The kitchen deals in contemporary dishes with a focus on sustainable sourcing with much of the produce supplied by the restaurant's own farm in West Sussex. Veal tartare, mushrooms and elderberries proceeds a main course of lamb, carrots and tomatoes or baby squid, black garlic and sour cream. Finely crafted desserts close the show with the likes of chocolate, cherry and almond or mango, cheesecake and coconut.
The wine list is a well sourced slate from across the globe curated by Head Sommelier Kelvin McCabe, together with craft beers including Adam's very own Frog session IPA in collaboration with Brewheadz, and there's signature cocktails.
