Review on Nobu Shoreditch
Japanese chef Nobu Matsuhisa and actor Robert De Niro, the famous duo known for their worldwide chain of restaurants called Nobu opened their third London sibling in the summer of 2017, set within its first European hotel in the heart of trendy Shoreditch. An innovatively designed hotel located on a quiet road off bustling Great Eastern Street, it's just a 10-minute walk to Old Street station.
The cavernous sub-level bar and restaurant have been designed by Studio PCH, accessed by a commanding gold, back-lit staircase. Featuring triple-height soaring ceilings, it's flooded with natural light from huge glass doors that lead out to the Nobu terrace, which is split into four different levels. A sleek affair, the restaurant is decked out in a palette of rich oak timber and bronze detailing, with a 10-cover sushi bar and a coveted 18-seat chef's table. Shelves line the walls behind the bar with an eclectic collection of vintage sakes, rare champagnes and a selection of limited edition Japanese whiskies.
The iconic menu has been devised by Chef Nobu Matsuhisa reflecting his years of studying Japanese cuisine in Tokyo and his extensive travels around the globe. Leading the kitchen is Executive chef Romain Devic who has worked for the group since 2012 in Miami, the Bahamas and Ibiza. Diners can look forward to classic signature dishes such as s Black Cod Miso, Tiradito 'Nobu Style' and Yellowtail Sashimi with Jalapeno. Other Shoreditch specials in the cold section include salmon nashi and octopus and surf clam ceviche, while hot specialities include duck confit with raspberry teriyaki or King Crab leg with uni and creamy wasabi.
