Review on Harry's Dolci Vita
Richard Caring's Caprice Holdings certainly had a busy December in 2017, not only did they open the lavish Granary Square Brasserie in King's Cross, they also launched Harry's Dolce Vita in upmarket Knightsbridge on the same day. The restaurant which is a nod to the original Harry's Dolci café in Venice that opened some 80 years ago, is located at the former Café Rouge site, opposite Harrods.
A beautifully sculptured restaurant that pays homage to Italy in the 1950's and 60's, the striking bar with rich tanned studded leather stools takes centre stage. Decked out in warm rustic colours with wood panelled walls, there's colourful Murano glass, silk Fortuny fabrics and vintage brass fixtures. Walls are decorated with iconic photos and artwork, celebrating the dolce vita from Oscar winning films such as Roman Holiday starring Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn.
Diego Cardoso, ex-Michelin starred chef of Angela Hartnett's Murano is leading the kitchen and he showcases a menu of Italian classics using first-class seasonal ingredients. Offering an all day eating experience that kicks off with breakfast, the a la carte menu runs from 11.30am weekdays and 5.00pm at the weekends. Start the ball rolling with carpaccio di manzo, raw sliced beef with Cipriani mustard dressing, rocket and parmesan before a main course of chargrilled marinated tuna steak with aubergine, datterini tomato, basil, olive and caper trifolati or insalat di pollo, chargrilled chicken with avocado, farro grains, tomato and basil. There's also a dedicated truffles menu, alongside pasta, risottos, pizzas and salads finishing with desserts such as their signature Harry's Toadstool, with white chocolate, fresh raspberries, mascarpone mousse, iced vanilla parfait and pistachio biscotti crunch served with warm pistachio sauce.
To accompany the food there's a carefully curated wine list, cocktails, Italian beers and a grappa trolley which circles the room.
