Review of Bistro on the Beach, Bournemouth

Bistro on the Beach certainly lives up to its name. It stands in a glorious spot on the Solent Promenade with to-die-for sea views from just about every table, whether you are sitting outside or gazing through the full-length windows in the casual dining room.

During the day, the place operates as a no-nonsense seaside café, feeding families, sunbathers and fun-loving types with locally caught fish, home-cooked hams, ice creams and the like – not forgetting traditional roasts on Sundays. There are also barbecues during the school holidays.

At night, it transforms into a lively bistro, offering all manner of eclectic dishes ranging from cannon of lamb with garlic mousse, pear and mint salsa to tiger prawn and scallop kebabs with coconut rice and sweet chilli sauce. Most savoury items can be ordered as starters or main courses, while desserts promise things like bananas in butterscotch or pecan and treacle tart with maple syrup ice cream.
