Mobile Food Guide Review of Scutchers
A bold, yellow-painted brick exterior marks out Scutchers, a lively country restaurant in one of Suffolk's most historic and most visited towns. Parts of the original building date back to the fifteenth century and it was a local pub in an earlier life. These days, smartness and rural simplicity go hand in hand, and the décor mixes pine furniture and bold primary colours with old beams, standing timbers and alcoves on different levels. It's spacious, open-plan and thoroughly agreeable. The kitchen deals is modern bistro-style cooking with an upbeat, eclectic edge and a keen eye for ingredients from near and far. To start there might be warm smoked haddock mousse on a beetroot salad with citrus dressing or local asparagus in a puff pastry case with a shallot butter sauce. Main courses pick up the theme with the likes of roast fillet of new season's lamb with mint gravy or native lobster and Isle of Skye langoustines sautéed with spring onions, ginger and oyster sauce and served on Scutcher's own noodles. Paxton & Whitfield cheeses are alternatives to desserts such as crème brûlée with sour cherry compote or iced berries with hot white chocolate sauce. Wines are carefully chosen, affordable and impressive across the range. Additional Restaurant Information for Scutchers - Long Melford
