Set in the heart of Blackheath Village Chapters All Day Dining offers user-friendly breakfasts, all-day menus and weekend brunch as the main events. The restaurant occupies a pleasant spot on the edge of the heath, with dining spread over two floors linked by a spiral staircase. The interior is a striking mix of vibrant colour schemes and bold contemporary artwork with liberal amounts of pale wood and steel added to the mix.
Like its big brother in Bromley, it deals in modern cooking with a strong European bias and a nod to the seasons - although the approach is much more casual. Steaks, chops and burgers from a specially imported, charcoal-fuelled Josper oven are among the mainstays, although big eats extend to fish specials and slow-roast Packington belly pork with choucroute and spiced lentils.
Starters promise anything from Caesar salad to deep-fried salt cod brandade with truffle mayo, and 'light bites' are available during the afternoon (perhaps, wild mushroom risotto, hake and chips or even scones with clotted cream). Desserts tend to be crowd-pleasers along the lines of Eton mess or chocolate brownie and banana sundae with caramelised hazelnuts. The reasonably priced wine lists divides roughly between France and the rest of the world, with plenty of tasty names on show.
